Transition to Third-level Maths; the increasing relevance and development of Maths Support

E-assessment in Mathematics: easing the workload

In the transition to Third-Level Maths, regular low stakes assessments can be of great value to students. However, they may also be an extra burden on busy lecturers. In this Conference, we examine technology as a means to enhance student experience and reduce the workload for the lecturer. In a hands-on interactive workshop, Numbas an online Maths e-assessment tool will be introduced. Online Assessment will be discussed by keynote speaker Dr. Bill Foster of Newcastle University. Also, an overview of some Maths support initiatives in Cork Institute of Technology will be given. There will then be an open discussion on the transition to third level Maths study, the increasing relevance and development of Maths support with a particular emphasis on Maths e-assessment.
