Group behaviour: What is the psychology of networking and bonding?

Download Now

Events are about getting people together in one place for a shared experience. A successful event is one that carefully considers these people: how they interact with one another and how they interact with the event speakers or organisers. To pull off the perfect people pleaser, a little bit of psychology goes a long way.

One of the most valuable aspects of any event is the networking opportunities it presents. Networking connects attendees with one another, sparking new ideas, forging new partnerships, and making the event worth attending and worth talking about. The problem with networking is that it can be, well, awkward. If you’ve ever turned up to a gathering as a “newbie” or first timer, you’ll know the feeling of hovering by the doorway, not knowing who to approach or where to begin.

This report is part of series called The Science of Events. We decided to delve into the science of events and the results of our in-depth research can be found in four reports which are:

  • The science of design: What makes great event design?
  • Group behaviour: What is the psychology of networking and bonding?
  • Social media: What is the science behind online engagement at an event?
  • Emotional marketing: What is the appeal of  nostalgia and the memory of experience?

This free report details how as an event organiser there are things that you should be doing to enrich your attendees experience.
