AMOPA Talk Series

On 17 December 2020, AMOPA Ireland will host a talk featuring Dr. Virginie Gautier (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques 2019). Dr. Gautier is an Associate Professor in Virology and Principal Investigator in UCD Centre for Experimental Pathogen Host Research (CEPHR) directed by Prof. Paddy Mallon in the UCD School of Medicine. Dr. Gautier leads a research programme focusing on the Host-Virus interface and HIV molecular pathogenesis funded by Health Research Board (HRB), Irish Research Council (IRC), Enterprise Ireland (EI) and the European H2020 programme. She is the coordinator of the Horizon 2020 EU4HIVCURE research programme to accelerate HIV Cure research in Europe.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Gautier and her team promptly shifted their research focus and developed a dedicated interdisciplinary COVID-19 Programme with critical research actions including SARS-CoV-2 molecular diagnostics and antiviral drug screening thanks to the financial support of SFI, EI, HRB and IRC as part of the Government of Ireland COVID-19 Rapid response scheme.

Dr. Gautier will speak about her experience of researching directly on Covid19, and will also elaborate more generally about researching in the cutting-edge area of pandemics.
