Event description

Description

A group is a set of participants in Moodle. A grouping is a set of groups. Moodle groups and groupings can be helpful if:

  • You teach a module which is composed of several classes or groups, and you want to filter your activities and gradebook so you only see one class at a time.
  • You co-teach a module which is composed of several classes or groups, and you want to filter your activities and gradebook so you don’t see activity pertaining to students from your colleagues’ classes.
  • You want to allocate a particular activity, resource or topic section to a specific class or set of students.
  • You want to use Moodle to support students to work on a group activity, for example a group discussion forum or a group wiki.

After completing the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Understand how groups and groupings can be used to support group work and group administration in Moodle
  • Understand the difference between visible and separate groups
  • Create groups and groupings in Moodle
  • Add students to groups in Moodle
  • Set up a Moodle group choice activity
  • Apply groups to Moodle resources and activities

Facilitator: Dr Morag Munro

If possible, participants are asked to bring a laptop with them to this workshop.
