About this event

This workshop is for lovers of poetry and 1920s dance music. Where you will combine these passions via poems which Charleston – or foxtrot! Through stylish, lyrical language, celebrate a revolutionary era, when men and women became physically closer, through music, more than ever before. Let the saxophone backdrop luscious settings or bass notes underscore atmosphere and mood. Explore various forms of rhymes and rhyming schemes to imitate waltz or tango moves. Revitalise poetic creations with assonance and alliteration gems. Shimmy and shake; back to a time when excess and decadence proved the order of the day. The workshop will also look at some poetry from the era i.e. Langston Hughes’ ‘The Weary Blues’/’Jazzband in a Parisien Cabaret,’ among others.
