Event description

Description

The All Ireland Permaculture Gathering is about bringing people and ideas together who share a common interest in sustainable and ethical methods to building a better world.

General Information

Following Permaculture Principles & Core Ethics - EARTH CARE, PEOPLE CARE & FAIR SHARE, this weekend event is about us all together "creating a functioning ecosystem". Each person contributes to all aspects of the event, as best they can and all participate (there are no passengers). The result is a weekend of self-created, home-grown food & fun, inspiring info sharing & demo's of the latest finds in Permaculture (food growing & people evolving!).

IN PRACTICE it looks like this: A family farm with tents, a central campfire and meeting place, a communual outdoor kitchen, hand-made structures (tarps & hazel) for us to gather in and people..... people with skills to share (that's you), people with idea's to discuss (that's you too) and families with children of all ages willing to care for each other by bringings a skill or a story to share. We leave the place as we found it but enhanced by the presence of the Gathering!

FAMILY FRIENDLY - CARDIÚIL: It is an alcohol & drug free event.
Music is acoustic. Self-care and respect for all life is central to this Gathering.

WATER - UISCE: (a few things to be conscious of)
1. As you may have seen in photos, this year's site has a beautiful wee lake across a lane and small field from the camping areas. Please be aware and fully responsible for your own children if wandering off Gathering site.

2. Please NOTE: There is only limited drinking water from their well which will be used in the kitchen.

We are setting up washing water tanks for the Gathering but

BUT PLEASE bring sufficient DRINKING WATER for your own needs for the weekend.

Toilets and Washing: Toilets and washing facilities will be available on site. (bring water)

FOOD - BIA:
The guiding principal for food is that it would be the most local, ethical, organic and unprocessed, low packaging use, and supporting local people if possible. We encourage those attending to bring any food donations to ensure plentiful and diverse meals for all throughout the event.

This year we are giving our "Sue chef" who has anchored the kitchen since she volunteered at our 3rd Gathering in Galway some time off. Many many thanks to her for all those meals!

The food arrangements will be self-organised using whatever resources we have.

(Large pots still needed!)

Bring and wash your own bowls, plates, mugs cutlery etc.

There will be one big community prepared meal on Saturday night using produce from the Gathering garden planted by the year team and growing right now!

For other meals we are suggesting that:

Friday night bring and share a pre-made dish or bring produce and in small groups use the kitchen and create dishes to share.

It's ideal if you have home-grown veggies to bring and put in the kitchen stores.

We will have a dry goods stock for all to use containing:

Tea bags
Porridge
Flour

And we hope to source more local spuds, onions and other Donegal field veg.

Bring whatever else you think you'll need (milk) and again share in small groups and make use of the kitchen for lunches and breakfasts.

TRANSPORT:
You can use the map above to plan your route whether it be by bus, train, bicycle or car. On our Facebook event page you can communicate and organise travel arrangements to help each other out. There is also a dedicated website www.carsharing.ie that may help as well.

PARKING:
Parking is available but very limited, we ask that if travelling by car, consider sharing any extra seats to bring someone along. See Transport note above & communicate with others on FB event page.

CAMP FIRES - TINE
There will be one main communal camp fire for people sit around and enjoy. The kitchen area is the only other place that a campfire is permitted.

DOGS/PETS
We cannot allow any dogs/pets on site.

VOLUNTEERING:
Required only from 7th - 13th August, spaces are limited. For more information please get in touch via Facebook or the website

If coming in a CAMPER VAN please purchase a van ticket. However, if 2 people will be sharing the van please purchase 1 van ticket and 1 camping ticket (total 2 tickets). So we know how many vans are coming as space for camper vans is limited. Much appreciated.
