Event description

Description

In the current context of major global challenges such as climate change, increasing urbanization and air pollution, conflict and humanitarian disasters, displacement and forced migration, population growth and rising inequalities, IFGH’s annual theme for 2018 is Ireland, Health and the SDGs.

A central thread throughout the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is leaving no-one behind. Yet little more than two years after they came into effect, the UN SDG 2018 report states ‘Progress to ensure that no-one is left behind has not been rapid enough to meet the targets of the 2030 agenda and this necessitates immediate and accelerated action by the countries and stakeholders at all levels’.

The 40th anniversary of the Alma Ata Declaration on Primary Healthcare, with the goal of protecting and promoting “health for all”, brings an opportunity to revisit and reaffirm health as a human right, highlight persistent health inequities, promote public participation in healthcare, and renew the commitment to primary health care through accelerating progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Reflecting on Ireland’s commitment to meeting the SDGs at home and abroad, and aligned to the 2018 October Global Conference on Primary Health Care, this one and a half day Global Health Exchange will:

  • Facilitate a space that brings stakeholders together to exchange cross-sectoral and cross-disciplinary global health learning and experiences
  • Focus on lessons drawn from policy and programme implementation, evaluation, research and practice
  • Strive to inspire improved ways of working.

Across all areas of global health, we particularly seek to emphasize:

  1. Equality and inclusion
  2. Integrated and inter-sectoral programmes, adaptability and sustainability
  3. Effective partnerships and strategies that bridge the humanitarian-development nexus

Spaces are limited and registration is required. We will provide a digital certificate of attendance upon request.
