This year, we're pleased to announce that we will have two distinguished guest speakers who will be attending. They are:

Professor Harry Browne, who will be speaking about where does America go post the mid-term elections.

Harry Browne is Senior Lecturer in the School of Media, Dublin Institute of Technology, where he coordinates the Centre for Critical Media Literacy. His journalism has appeared in numerous publications, including the anthology Great Irish Reportage (Penguin, 2013). He is the author of three books: Hammered by the Irish (Counterpunch/AK Press, 2008); The Frontman: Bono (In the Name of Power) (Verso, 2013, with Spanish and Italian editions by Sexto Piso and Edizioni Alegre respectively); and Public Sphere (Cork University Press, 2018). He is a member of Gaza Action Ireland and Academics for Palestine and is active in various other political groups and causes.

Mr. Peter Feeney, Ireland's Press Ombudsman will be speaking on his role as Ombudsman and the role of the free press in a functioning Democracy.

Peter Feeney became Ireland's Press Ombudsman on 01 September 2014, following the retirement of Professor John Horgan.

He previously served as an independent member of the Press Council of Ireland, since October 2013. As RTÉ's Head of Broadcast Compliance and Freedom of Information Officer he managed for over ten years RTÉ's processes in dealing with complaints to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. He was also responsible for the production of guidelines and training in programme standards.

As FOI Officer he handled over one thousand requests from journalists and members of the public for records held by RTÉ and simultaneously advised RTÉ programme-makers on their own use of FOI to obtain records. Prior to Compliance and FOI he was from 1990 to 1997 Editor of Current Affairs Television in RTÉ. Before joining RTÉ he lectured in politics in the University of Ulster.

He left RTÉ at the end of 2012.

We look forward to welcoming both men and learning from their unique perspectives.
