Event Details

The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) is Ireland’s largest adult study. TILDA, funded by the Department of Health, Irish Life and Atlantic Philanthropies and led by Trinity College Dublin, is one of the most comprehensive population studies of ageing internationally (www.tilda.ie). TILDA commenced data collection in 2009, recruiting a nationally representative cohort of 8,500 people, aged 50 and over, in order to chart their health, social, and economic circumstances over time. Wave 5 of data collection completed in 2018, and Wave 6 will take place in 2020. TILDA is a member of a family of longitudinal studies in ageing led by the Healthy Retirement Study in the US.  Each year, the TILDA Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meet to assist with novel applications and output from the study. This year, the SAB will for the first time, join with advisors from the larger global network of ageing studies to reflect on the fast evolving research in Ireland and other parts of the world.  Also, for the first time, the meeting will be held outside of Dublin in the West of Ireland in Westport, Co Mayo.  The conference will take place in the Town Hall of Westport.  A scientific programme for Thursday and Friday morning has been created to allow attendees to be immersed in ageing research, network with world leaders in the field, and enjoy the culture of the West of Ireland.

Speakers at the conference will include Professor Rose Anne Kenny, Associate Professor Anne Nolan, Dr Charlotte Neville, Professor Brian O’Connell, Professor Tom Fahey, Professor Kieran Walsh, Professor Fiona Newell and Professor Richard Layte. The full programme can be found here: https://tilda.tcd.ie/assets/pdf/SAB-Agenda-2019.pdf  . There will also be an interactive poster session (enquires regarding submitting a poster can be sent to tilda@tcd.ie).
