This course will explore family influences on problem solving and offer practical ways of helping each other in finding encouraging solutions to problems. How we use language in problem situations and the incident method will get special attention. Participants will learn and be able to apply the incident method. Case examples provided by the participants will be used to develop new skills and insights.

Building Self Esteem in Yourself and Others Jill Reynolds

This workshop, will begin by defining self esteem. There are so many terms we use: self-worth, self-confidence self-belief, self-respect. How do these terms differ and how are they saying the same thing? We will explore the influences on our self esteem through reflecting on our early childhood experiences, family of origin and the beliefs we hold today about life and belonging. We will learn skills of self encouragement and encouraging others, by focusing on resilience and strengths.

2 Day Courses

9th Thursday and 10th Friday July 2020

Exploring Parenting and Families Kim Lee Own

Participants in this workshop will explore the Adlerian perspective on parenting and families starting from the Adlerian principle that from birth we are looking for belonging and significance. We will consider how this might affect children’s behaviour and influence parenting styles. There will be the opportunity to learn new techniques for understanding behaviour and encouraging more cooperation in family life. This experiential and reflective workshop is suitable for parents as well as for practitioners working in the field of parenting support.

Managing Stress and Anxiety Elaine Parker

This workshop will focus on managing stress and anxiety. To gain an understanding of these issues we will explore the purpose of behaviour, symptoms and feelings. We will look at how we develop stress and anxiety, from the perspective of coping mechanisms developed in early life. We will also look at some mechanisms for coping with stress and anxiety, including some practice of these techniques.I hope we will go away with some insight as well as some practical tools for managing these challenges

2 Day 11th Saturday and 12th Sunday July 2020

Encouragement Inside and Out Kim Lee Own

In this two- day workshop participants will have the opportunity to work creatively and experientially to explore how encouragement, a key concept of Adlerian psychology, fosters a greater sense of belonging and connectedness. We will look at how we can develop our creative resources to guide us through the ups and downs of life. As well as activities to nurture and encourage our inner strengths, we will also look at how an attitude of encouragement can impact those around us.

Communication Styles and Relationship Elaine Parker

Very often, relationship difficulties happen when our communication style (priorities) collide. This workshop will explore Nira Kfir’s concept of the “priority of lifestyle”. (How we communicate). Linked to Early Recollections, these are ways of managing ourselves when under stress. We will look at building awareness of what we do when we are stressed. We will learn to identify what happens when others around us are stressed and how to manage impasses that interferes with our understanding of each other.

CHILDRENS PROGRAMME (5 - 12 years)

Working and playing as part of a group will provide a fun, safe environment for children to exercise their creativity and develop their problem-solving, negotiating and communication skills. Using encouragement, group meetings and other Adlerian methods, the facilitators will use opportunities to develop each child's ability to connect, feel capable and count in ways that are useful to themselves and the group.

THIS COURSE IS AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN OF COURSE PARTICIPANTS ONLY.
