Event description
A lionhearted and savagely funny new play

About this event

The 41st Anniversary of the Stardust fire will be 14th February 2022.

The lives of four friends, Tom, Sarah, Maggie and James are changed forever when they enter the Stardust Nightclub on Dublin’s Northside on 13th February 1981.

This lionhearted and savagely funny play tells the gut-wrenching true story of Kane’s parents escape from the fire. Childhood sweethearts Tom and Sarah have recently broken up and both are left devastated. Ever the romantic, Tom plans to win Sarah back by proposing to her in the Stardust. Just as he is about to pop the question, the fire breaks out and the pair become separated.

The story unfolds through sharp-tongued narrative and visceral movement, set to the backdrop of designer Sinead Purcell’s 80s inspired set, plus a haunting and distorted soundscape by composer Dylan Tonge Jones. This is beautifully interwoven with real audio testimonies from Stardust survivors. The production captures the pulsating youth of 1980s Dublin on the brink of irreparable social change.

This is a true story.
