5th National Sepsis Summit is on Tuesday 25th September 2018 in Dublin Castle

The National Clinical Effectiveness Guideline No 6: Sepsis Management was developed with the help of many of the National Clinical Programmes clinical leads and working groups and was published by the Department of Health’s National Clinical Effectiveness Committee (NCEC) in November 2014. The Irish guideline on the management of Sepsis was given the international seal of approval by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) March 2015. The guideline development was a recommendation made by HIQA following the tragic death of Ms Savita Halappanaavar.

Since 2014, the National Sepsis Team has fostered awareness in the Acute Hospital Sector via the Summits, hospital site visits and educational presentations to Doctors, Nurses, Midewifes and Health & Social Care Professionals.

During this summit Professor Kevin Rooney Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, Professor of Care Improvement , University of the West of Scotland has agreed to as keynote speaker about updates in neighbouring country, Kevin is also our external advisor on the Irish National Sepsis Steering Committee.

The annual Sepsis Outcome report will be launched with 2017 data. The updated versions of the support tools will also be presented; these will be also included in the update of the updated and new sepsis support and decision making tools, thanking all expert groups, hospitals, units and departments who contributed to this continuous improvement.

Hospitals and healthcare professionals will be given the opportunity, by oral presentation and poster, to showcase their sepsis initiatives. Awards will be given for the best initiatives.
