Event description
The third annual research conference of the UCD Centre for Arthritis Research; Self-Management for You & Your Family

About this event

Through an initiative called The Patient Voice in Arthritis Research, the UCD Centre for Arthritis Research is working together with patients, family members, carers and the interested public to improve research, health and quality of life for those living with arthritis.

Arthritis is the biggest cause of disability in Ireland. Arthritis is a catch-all term for over 100 different conditions. Arthritis can be caused by a problem with the immune system, such as rheumatoid arthritis; this usually affects people of working age. About 75% of people diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis are working at the time of diagnosis. Every third person diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis becomes work disabled.

This year the conference will focus on self-management. Confirmed speakers include Prof Norelee Kennedy and Dr Jennifer Wilson-O’Raghallaigh. Recent work from rheumatology researchers will be presented and the clearest presentation will be awarded the Clarity in Research medal.

Conference funding is provided by Pfizer and Biogen.
