Three choirs from Cork, Galway and Rome will come together in the glorious North Cathedral, Cork, to perform Fauré's Requiem and an eclectic mix of other choral favourites.

Cork’s award-winning mixed-voice choir, PfizerPfonics, presents an evening of eclectic choral favourites from around the world, with a grand finale performance of Fauré’s Requiem.

Three choirs from Cork, Galway and Rome will congregate on 1 April 2017 at 8pm in the North Cathedral, Cork, to perform this majestic piece, alongside soloists Soprano Mary Flaherty and Baritone Gordon Garde, accompanied by the Organist Richard Rudkins and orchestral musicians.

Performed by Cork's PfizerPfonics, Galway's Dunmore Church Choir and Rome's Coro Luigi Colacicchi on Saturday 1st April at 8pm.

About the choirs:

PfizerPfonics, Cork
PfizerPfonics was established in 2003 under its Musical Director Bernadette Kiely. They have won numerous awards for Sacred and Contemporary Music at festivals including Limerick and the Cork International Choral Festival. The choir appeared on RTÉ’s ‘an Cor’ in 2011 and have performed in Vienna, Nice, Italy, Amsterdam, the Royal Albert Hall and Rome.

St. Nicholas’s Church Choir, Dunmore, Co. Galway
Dunmore Church Choir was formed in 1967 for the opening of the new parish church. They have performed at many choir competitions in Ireland including Derry, Limerick, and the Cork International Choral Festivals in Cork and Mayo. Internationally, their appearances include Rome, Florence, New York, Toronto, Vienna, London and Prague.

Coro Polifonico “Luigi Colacicchi”, Rome
The "Colacicchi" was formed in 1978 under the guidance of multi award-winning Domenico Cieri, and is now conducted by Luciano Fontoni. They have performed in many Italian and foreign locations, including Switzerland, Greece, Great Britain and Portugal, and have participated in national and international exhibitions and festivals.

About the Soloists:

Mary Flaherty
Soprano Mary made her debut with Co-Opera in 2006 singing the title role in Puccini's Tosca. She has sung iconic parts with Opera Ireland and Lyric Opera, has appeared throughout Ireland and with choirs in New York, Florence, Rome, Madrid and Vienna.

Gordon Garde
Performing all over Ireland and the continent, Gordon has sung Baritone for the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Cork School of Music’s Fleischmann Choir, the Orchestra of St Cecilia in Dublin and is a long-standing member of vocal ensemble Madrigal ’75.

Richard Rudkins
Richard is a Cork-based composer, orchestrator and organist. He lectures at the Cork School of Music, where he was awarded the 2012 Director’s Prize for composition. Richard has accompanied choirs around Cork and is musical director of the Mayfield Gospel Choir.

About the Venue:

The Catholic Cathedral of St. Mary & St. Anne, known locally as the North Cathedral, is located at the top of Shandon Street, in one of the most historic areas of Cork. The Cathedral, dedicated in 1808, is located on the site of a former church built in the 1730s. The Cathedral is the principal church of the Diocese of Cork & Ross.
