Event description
This workshop will focus on the strengths of autistic people and how focusing on those strengths can allow their potential to be fulfilled.

About this event

A strength-based approach views situations realistically and looks for opportunities to complement and support existing strengths and capacities as opposed to focusing on the problem.

In this approach, the person and the problem are separated, and where the problem is solved through using the strengths and talents of the people involved.

This approach is closely aligned with the social model of disability which says that the barriers that society puts in front of people, such as poor access and negative attitudes, is what disables a person, and that if we focus on a person's strengths while removing barriers, then that person can flourish.

Autistic people have a huge amount of strengths that are often forgotten about and neglected by society in favour of focusing on the difficulties that they face.

This workshop will focus on those strengths, how these strengths can benefit society and how we can ensure that these strengths are utilised everyday.

This workshop will take 50mins with 10mins at the end for questions, and will be run by our Training Officer James Moroney. It will be recorded and shared with attendees for 48 hours so that anyone who misses the talk or experiences an tech issues will still avail of the Workshop.
