Event description

Join us for a how-to workshop about literacy development, language learning, and AAC! During this session, we'll ask and answer the following questions:

  • Why do students who use AAC fail to develop as readers and writers?

  • How do we solve this?

  • What does tomorrow morning look like if we were to deliver evidence-based literacy instruction that integrates language learning?

  • How do we measure and define success?

Once we've scoped out the theory of effective literacy instruction for AAC users, we'll introduce you to Reading Avenue—a program delivered FREE with Boardmaker Online. At the end of this workshop, you'll be able to:

  • identify the learning level of each student or group with whom you work

  • match them to the kinds of books and activities that lay the foundation for success

  • deliver formative assessments at periodic intervals

  • develop a daily routine for delivering accessible, engaging instruction as well as opportunities for independent practice

Join us to learn all things literacy, communication and AAC! Beyond Reading Avenue, we'll also introduce a host of other FREE curricular programs that support language and content learning across the school day.

  • Included in this workshop, you'll get:

  • A Free (or extended) Trial to Boardmaker Online

  • Access to Reading Avenue, an accessible, comprehensive literacy curriculum

  • An introduction to Free printable activities to enhance content learning

  • A free copy of Snap Core First for professionals

  • A certificate of attendance

  • A chance to win your own personal PCS avatar

What will I learn?

  • What evidence-based instruction can look like for students who use AAC
