Description

Addictions: The Science of Therapy, The Science of Change Presented by Jim Holder

This experiential workshop will examine Neuroplasticity and the Addiction processes to alcohol, food, gambling, street drugs, medications, sex, and cell phones. Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to change and to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Neuroplasticity allows the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment.

Adlerian lifestyles and Merzenich‘s Brain Maps will be assessed through the use of early recollections and first use memories. Brain Maps are simply how individuals perceive the world.

Once individuals learn how they addicted themselves, action can be taken to move into full recovery. Recovery is brought about through brain map (or lifestyle) change

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn how private logic influences addiction issues

2. Participants will learn reorientation and change work involving neuroplasticity

3. Participants will learn to assess and understand brain maps and styles of life

4. Participants will learn the use of prime/first use memories and early recollections

This workshop is open to: Therapists, counsellors, social workers, psychologists and individuals who want to understand unproductive habits and addictions.
