Event description

Description

Niamh Mc Tiernan is the current Director of Services in the Northside Partnership. Prior to taking up this role Niamh worked in Australia designing a programmes for young people experiencing homelessness, unemployment or and for those living in care settings using this Advantaged Thinking approach. Advantaged Thinking (AT) is an approach, developed by Colin Falconer that represents a shift in the way we think about and respond to people experiencing disadvantage. It is a shift away from a deficit, disadvantaged or problem-saturated lens and recognises that all people have a vital contribution to make to the social and economic life of our communities and society. Rather than investing in people’s problems the community needs to re-direct investment into building their abilities – harnessing them for personal as well as social good. An Advantaged Thinking approach sets as a primary goal, a shift in both how the government and community sectors invest in people, and how employers and the community see people and their capacity to contribute.
