Event description

Description

The British Irish Chamber of Commerce and our sponsors KPMG and Ulster Bank have come together to address the various challenges and opportunities that Brexit has brought about for business interests in the UK and Ireland.

The UK remains Ireland’s biggest two-way trading partner and Irish SMEs are particularly exposed to the consequences of Brexit with over 40% of Irish SME exports going to the UK. As SMEs in Ireland account for over 90% of enterprises in the country and represent 70% of private sector employment any significant reduction in the trading environment of the Irish SME sector has the potential to derail Ireland’s economic recovery. Therefore, it is essential that Irish SMEs across the country are aware of the consequences of the UK’s exit from the EU and plan and prepare accordingly. Furthermore, attendees will hear why the UK will still remain an important trading partner for Ireland.

This SME Seminar entitled ‘Supporting SMEs in a post-Brexit World’ will focus on 2 specific topics:

1. Preparing Irish Business for Brexit and

2. Maintaining Trade with the UK: A Regional Perspective

Speakers Include:

Simon Barry, Chief Economist, Ulster Bank,

Breda Fox, CEO, Galway Local Enterprise Office (LEO),

Martin Fox, Managing Director, Joint-It,

Conor O’Dowd, Audit Director, KPMG,

John McGrane, Director General, British Irish Chamber of Commerce,

Shirley McCay, Director of Trade and Investment, Department for International Trade, British Embassy Dublin,

Dave Hickey, President of Galway Chamber,

The Chair for this Seminar is Aidan Scollard, Chair of the Chamber’s SME Committee, Partner at Roberts Nathan
