About this event

Dublin, 1911, was a city facing into a decade of local, national and international importance marked by events such as the 1913 lock-out, the outbreak of World War 1 and the 1916 Rising, but citizens lived out their daily lives with no idea of the historic times in their immediate futures. Whilst much has been documented of life in the City tenements at this time, especially in the Liberties, what was life like in the neighbourhood on the outer fringes of this area, an area where town and countryside met - the South Circular Road (SCR)?

Cathy Scuffil is the Historian-in-Residence for the south city under Dublin City Libraries’ Community History Programme marking the Decade of Commemorations.
