Description

Alternative Approaches to Drawing and Painting - An Introduction // A week long course with the artist Tadhg McGrath // Monday July 24th - Friday July 28th // 10:00 - 16:00

The course is for those who wish to explore alternative methods of panting and drawing, building on work from observation and making artworks based on found images, photographs and abstraction. Studies in composition and mark-making will explore the use of imagery from sources such as news media and advertising, as starting points for paintings which are more than simple recordings.

Through practical demonstrations and experimentation the participants will be encouraged to explore ways in which contemporary art can deal with expressing personal experiences and the idea of abstraction.

A week long course that explores the different ways that drawing and painting can be used to explore subjects beyond simply recording and observing. Suitable for both practising artists and those just starting off, the workshop will provide students with a framework of exercises to allow them to really explore painting. This will allow you to find and develop a personal method to use abstract and semi-figurative techniques in artmaking.

Monday July 24th through to Friday July 28th inclusive

10am until 4pm with an hour for lunch.

A life model will be used on 2 of the days, and all materials will be supplied (though a materials list will be sent to each student should you wish to build your own set)

Course Fee: €225

A deposit of €100 secures your place.
