Sean Patrick Foley

Sean was diagnosed with Autism aged 13. He also has Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia. Born in London in 1988, he moved to Manchester to attend secondary school in 2000 then after a torrid two years there he moved to Co. Kerry where he now lives independently. When the demands of secondary school proved too stressful and a psychologist identified the warning signs of Depression, he began home education with his Dad, Kevin.
History was and is his favourite subject and he obtained a grade A at Leaving Cert. Sean set up a genealogy business which involved independent travel to Dublin and the learning of many skills along the way.
Sean now gives talks on his experience of school and education to groups of parents, professionals and trainee teachers in Ireland and the UK. He has also participated in the RTE documentary “Life with Autism”. He has written many articles on the needs of people with autism in relation to places such as airports and hotels. And has also advised on the award winning film ‘Drummer and the Keeper”.
As well as raising awareness of Autism, Sean enjoys learning about Political History and dancing to Elvis records. And meditation to classical music and Mindfulness walks.
