Event description

Description

In 2017 ChildVision started up a new service called Equine Assisted Occupational Therapy (EAOT). There is one Occupational Therapist and a team of equine staff with extensive experience in supporting children and young adults with additional needs in an equine setting.

EAOT refers to providing therapeutic input to those with additional needs of many kinds, including, but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impairment, anxiety disorder, learning disability, development disorder, behavioural difficulties and brain injury. The horse is used as the therapeutic medium to work towards goals identified during the assessment process.

There are many benefits of EAOT. It can improve sensory processing, motor coordination, posture, balance, muscle tone, concentration, self-confidence and social skills in children with special needs. The team work together with the horses and the children to help them achieve their highest potential in all these areas.

This presentation introduces the concept of EAOT, and how we work here in ChildVision. It is suitable for parents and professionals hoping to avail of the service in particular,
