Anam Cara: A journey of Resilience, Hope and Faith

This conference is an exploration and celebration of the strength of the human spirit to overcome and grow.

The keynote speaker is Prof Sarah H. Kagan, Lucy Walker Honorary Term Professor of Gerontological Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. Prof Kagan specialises in health and well being of the older population. She is a Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Living Well Program at the Joan Karnell Supportive Care Program for the Abramson Cancer Center at the Pennsylvania Hospital. Prof Kagan currently holds several international appointments in Nursing and in Public Health including Visiting Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at University College Dublin. She is Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Older People Nursing. Her talk will focus on the journey of hope and empowerment.

Mary Prendergast MBA, MSc, HDip, Dip Social studies. Dip HGC, RGN RM. Mary Prendergast is Director of Nursing Innovation & Research, NMPDU Project. Mary has contributed and presented extensively over the years on the Patient Participation Principal and specialises in training of Nursing and Support Staff, and Service Users in quality programmes, practice development and organisational change. Mary is a Human Givens Counsellor with a specific an interest and practice in debriefing and is a founding member of an expert group to promote and facilitate the development of compassionate networks in the Irish context. Mary will speak to the power of resilience.

Antoinette Doocey, MBA, BA Hons, H Dip PHN (Distinction), H Dip Psychology, R Midwife, RGN. Antoinette worked for over 30 years in the Irish Healthcare system and now works as a management consultant at ADC Service Innovation & Development as well as an Interfaith Minister. Antoinette Doocey will speak to the journey of authenticity and faith.

Richard Marnell is an Addiction Counsellor HSE South East based in the Carlow/Kilkenny area. His talk is of the journey of resilience and restoration.
