Event description

Description

Collections in local archive services are often overlooked by family history researchers, but investing the time in accessing these documents can help to fill in long-standing gaps in one’s family history. Drawing on a diverse range of manuscript collections that reflect the cultural, commercial, maritime, political and social heritage of County Wexford, this talk will explore some of the primary source materials in Wexford County Archive that are relevant for family history research.

Gráinne Doran has been Wexford County Council’s archivist since 2002. Before that, she worked as Midland Regional Archivist with Laois, Offaly, Longford and Westmeath County County Councils. She was one of the co-authors of the National Retention Policy for Local Authority Records, published in 2002, and of the Local Authority Archivists’ Group’s publication, Local Authority Archives in Ireland (2004).
