Artist Talk: Jimmy Robert
Event Information
About this Event
Born in Guadeloupe, and based in Berlin, Jimmy Robert — who works in performance, photography, installation, and film — uses the body to ask questions about how spaces are constructed, and what it means to see and be seen. His artworks are often formed through processes of translation and transition, as he constructs meaning out of the differences that exist between various sites, texts, and media. His exhibitions include solo shows at Nottingham Contemporary; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; and KAAI Theatre, Brussels; and group exhibitions at Glasgow International; Chicago Architecture Biennial; David Roberts Art Foundation, London; and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. He is represented by Tanya Leighton Gallery, Berlin.
1,2,3,4, is an exhibition of contemporary artists' films on dance, movement and choreography. From solo performances to synchronized routines, interpretative renditions to public interventions, and from ballet to hip hop to voguing, the exhibition presents an insight into how visual artists have conveyed dance through the camera.
