Artist Talk: Kathy Tynan
Event Information
About this Event
Kathy Tynan makes paintings which typically depict details and particularities of urban and domestic scenes. Her direct and energetic approach to the painted surface favours liveliness over correctness of representation. While her paintings are figurative, the real subject matter of her work is the moment of encounter within the everyday when ordinary or usually overlooked aspects of a scene become illuminated. Her recent exhibitions include Highlanes Gallery; Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin; The Lab, Dublin; Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh; Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris; Dada Post, Berlin; and Kuvataide Academia, Helsinki. She published her first book of paintings, Proud & Strong All Day Long, in 2018. In 2019 she was the winner of the Dublin City Council Visual Arts Bursary and was shortlisted for The Hennessey-Craig prize for painting. Kathy Tynan is represented by Kevin Kavanagh, Dublin.
Accompanying the Glucksman's 2021 exhibition Home: Being and belonging in contemporary Ireland, this series of online artist talks invites participating artists to discuss their practices. These talks are free and will take place throughout the duration of Home.
