Let's reconnect with people and places at the Assembly of European Regions Summer Academy 2022, which takes place in Donegal, North West Ireland on the Wild Atlantic Way from Monday 29th August until Friday 2nd September 2022.

The Summer Academy will be hosted by Donegal County Council and Udarás na Gaeltachta. The venue is the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal, which fosters one of the most progressive learning environments in Ireland.

This year we celebrate the European Year of Youth 2022 and Ireland's 50th Anniversary of membership of the EU. The theme this year focuses on ‘A Europe for the Next Generation’. The event will be youth focused and themed around key topics such as climate change, skills and education, cross-border and transnational cohesion and reconciliation, remote working and entrepreneurship.

The Summer Academy features an exciting and captivating line up of speakers at our plenary conference. Member regions will host interesting and informative workshops where we can get to the root of youth issues with lively discussion.

Delegates at the Summer Academy will also experience fantastic excursions along the Wild Atlantic Way where they can enjoy the heritage & culture of Ireland and enjoy the best of the Wild Atlantic Way with a range of outdoor adventure activities. Donegal has it all! Don't delay, register today.

What is AER Summer Academy’s mission?

The AER Summer Academy aims to:

  • To facilitate the exchange of experience and good practices between regions on issues of common interest.
  • To facilitate exchanges between policy makers and young people.
  • To support mutual learning.
  • To promote regional democracy in Europe & implementation of the principle of subsidiarity.
  • To provide an opportunity for regional representatives to build networks with their peers across wider Europe.
  • To foster interregional co-operation.
  • To highlight regional good practices and promote the host region
  • To promote European construction, European identity, between young people
