Storytelling for Impact:
Basic storytelling
- Every story needs action, emotion and a moral if you want people to pay attention and remember it.
- Tell a basic story about yourself and your work.
- Talk about your ideas in story form and use the patterns and ingredients of fictional stories to tell compelling factual stories about your work.
Understand your audience.
- Who are you trying to reach?
- How do you adapt your message or explain technical subjects to non-experts.
Storytelling as a way of working
- How stories can help you influence people and change the culture of your organisation/team.
- How to build storytelling into your organisation.
Delivered by Steve Rawling, International author, BBC Academy Trainer and former BBC journalist who helps people come up with new ideas and tell brilliant stories about their work.
Notes
Cancellation Fee: There is no cost for staff attending these courses but you will be asked for a departmental cost code on booking. Your department will be liable for a charge of €75 for 4 working days' cancellation notice and €150 for 48 hours' notice or non-attendance without prior cancellation by email to staffdev@tcd.ie.
Approval for Attendance: Please note that your manager needs to be aware of any planned absence from your area, please discuss with your manager/head of school in advance of booking.
Food Requirements: We offer tea/coffee for short events.
