Health and Safety in Relation to your Voice

• Is your voice tired at the end of the day?

• Do you lack vocal presence, i.e. do you find it hard to gain people’s attention in a room full of people?

• Have you been told that you speak too quickly?

• Do you find that new people struggle to understand you and you may have to repeat yourself?

• Have you ever strained or lost your voice at work?

The first 90 min session will focus on avoiding vocal strain with tips on grounding when sitting and standing, what foods, drinks and activities to avoid when lecturing, steps to take when you feel under the weather, preventive measures and some vital tips for vocal health.

The second 90 min session is all about the good use of your body breath and voice, employing mindfulness and other practical ways to ground you and improve your breathing, so that by working on breath support you will be heard by all your students and colleagues - whether in lecture rooms or in the virtual setting,

You will be provided with a vocal workout - a series of exercises that you can select from that will improve the use of your voice and build stamina, so that you are less likely to succumb to vocal strain.

Our trainer Cathal Quinn is one of the most in demand voices coaches in Ireland today – and is currently the Head of Voice and Speech in The Lir Academy, Trinity College Dublin.

After you register you will be sent a calendar invite with a Zoom link so you can access the training online. If you have any questions email staffdev@tcd.ie
