Event description

Description

If you haven't heard of laughter yoga before, let me tell you a little bit about it! Laughter yoga was invented in India by a cardiologist called Dr Madan Kataria almost 25 years ago. There is so much scientific research to back up how good laughter yoga is for your body and mind.

Unlike traditional yoga there are no special poses, so it is open to people of all ages and abilities. I hold workshops with five-year-old children in schools and 90-year olds in nursing homes and everyone in between. The concept of laughter yoga is simple, it is laughter for no reason. We do not rely on comedy, jokes or humour.

So what happens in a laughter yoga session? We start off with some breathing exercises and gentle stretching to oxygenate the body and brain. Then we introduce youthful playfulness to get the laughter started. It doesn't matter if you don't feel like laughing at the start. As we all know, laughter is contagious! Once the laughter starts in the group it will spread and by the end you should experience 25 minutes of proper belly laughs which will give all those great health benefits. We will finish on a meditation to leave you feeling happy, light and energised for days.

You won’t need any special clothes or equipment – just bring a willingness to laugh.

Give it a go, you won't regret it!
