About this Event

Attunement and responsiveness are central to successful psychotherapy. Indeed, research confirms differences in these core skills account for why certain therapists are more effective than others.

At this one of a kind, three and a half day, all-inclusive experience, you will improve your attunement and responsiveness skills by learning the ways of the “horse whisperers.” From sun up to sun down, you will observe, interact with, and ride horses. Evenings will be spent debriefing the day’s lessons and applying what you learn to practice of psychotherapy.

The experience will be led by one of North America’s most respected cowboys, and two of the field’s leading researchers and clinicians. All the while, you’ll be staying as guests at the private and luxurious McGinnis Meadows Ranch in Libby, Montana.

This experience is not for the faint of heart – days will be long and physical as you embark on this opportunity to learn about yourself as a clinician through communication and interaction with your equine partner. Please be mindful that you will be on your feet and moving or riding for most of each day, so physical stamina is required.

Registration is absolutely limited to 20 practitioners. Join colleagues from around the world for this unique experience – one that promises to challenge, inspire, and fundamentally change your clinical practice.

The ICCE Attunement and Responsiveness Intensive will be led by:

- Brooke Mathewes, MEd, LCPC, ICCE Dir of Connection & Support

- Scott Miller, Ph.D., ICCE Director

- Shayne Jackson, Master Horseman & owner of McGinnis Meadows

Through individualized instruction and live interaction with horses, you will:

- Form more secure therapeutic bonds

- Connect with a more diverse clientele

- Become aware of and better able to regulate in the moment emotional responses that negatively impact alliance and outcome.

Accessing the ranch is possible by car or by flying into Glacier National Airport in Montana. Rental cars are available and it is approximately a 1.5 hour commute from the airport to the ranch. For those who would prefer that transportation be arranged, the ranch has offered transportation for a $50 fee each way. If you choose this option, you will be required to ensure that you are at the airport no later than 1:30 pm on Sunday, Oct 3rd. Return to the airport will be provided the morning of Thursday, Oct 7, please do not book flights departing before 12pm.

For those individuals that decide to stay the rest of the week at the ranch as guests and want transportation back to airport, the same rules will apply. The transportation will leave Sat morning (October 8th) to accommodate flights taking place after 12pm.

Terms & Conditions:

Ranch accommodation’s are rustic and yet luxurious – decorated with western flare and Pendleton motifs throughout. But remember, this is a working ranch, so lodge room space is limited (one queen bed, typically a single occupancy). Single occupancy space is very limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Double occupancy will be the norm for the cabins, so bunking with friends is preferable. If you are attending as a single we reserve the right to lodge you with another person. The smaller, double occupancy cabins have a queen bed and a pullout convertible futon. Cabin assignments will be based on the number of bookings in a single reservation. Reservations with 3 or more people in their parties will be given preference to the larger cabins such as the Bunkhouse or Cristel.
