Description

Rowan Tree Readings, in association with Poetry Ireland, are hosting ‘Australian Night’ with readings by poets and authors Anne Casey, Nathanael O’Reilly and Alison Whitelock. Singer songwriters Anne Rynne, Claire Watts and Shona Blake will perform with their group Three Women Sing.

Anne Casey
Originally from Clare and living in Sydney, Anne Casey is an award-winning poet, writer and literary editor with work appearing internationally in newspapers, magazines, journals, anthologies, podcasts, broadcasts, videos, music albums, a stage show, an international art exhibition and her poetry collection, where the lost things go (Salmon Poetry 2017). Her writing and poetry rank in The Irish Times newspaper's Most-Read. She has won or been shortlisted for poetry awards in Ireland, Northern Ireland, the USA, UK, Canada and Australia. Over a 25-year career, Anne has worked as a business journalist, magazine editor, media communications director and legal author.

Nathanael O’Reilly
Nathanael O’Reilly was born in Australia. He has travelled on five continents and lived in England, Germany, Ukraine and the United States. His poems have appeared in journals and anthologies in ten countries. O’Reilly is the author of two full-length collections: Preparations for Departure (UWAP, 2017), named one of the “2017 Books of the Year” in Australian Book Review, and Distance (2014); and three chapbooks: Cult (2016), Suburban Exile (2011) and Symptoms of Homesickness (2010). He received an Emerging Writers Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts in 2010 and was shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize in 2017.

Alison Whitelock
Ali Whitelock is a Scottish poet and writer living in Sydney. Her memoir, ‘Poking seaweed with a stick and running away from the smell’ was launched to critical acclaim in Australia and the UK. Her debut poetry collection, and my heart crumples like a coke can has just been released by Wakefield Press, Adelaide. Her poems have appeared in The Moth Magazine, The American Journal of Poetry, Gutter Magazine, NorthWords Now, The Poets’ Republic, The Red Room Company, Beautiful Losers Magazine, Backstory Journal, Other Terrain Journal and Ink Sweat & Tears. She is currently working on her second memoir and second poetry collection.


The Women Sing - Anne Rynne, Claire Watts and Shona Blake
Anne Rynne, Claire Watts, Shona Blake are accomplished singer-songwriters who started singing together about 18 months ago in each other's kitchens, meeting once a week. Gradually, they began to go out and sing for others. "This is music for anyone who lives and breathes.”
