Event description

Description

In Ireland alone, over 1 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away every year mostly from domestic sources, of which only 25% are recycled. It's estimated that a piece of clothing still has 70% of its useful life left when it's thrown away.

Join me in my 4 week workshop by taking on 3 upcycling projects and you will become inspired to reduce textile waste through your own creativity*. Take unwanted garments and turn them into hand crafted unique pieces that your baby can wear or gift to friends and family.

*Snacks & Light refreshments provided.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

WEEK 1: Bebe Bandana Bib

Upcycle an old towel and tee shirt into an on-trend baby bib. Any tee shirt and towel is suitable for this, the softer and used the better. Learn to cut your garment allowing for stitch allowance, sew and finish the bib, and hand sew a snap button. For those who wish to make more, your fabric will allow to make several bebe bandana bibs so make as many as you like!

WEEK 2: Petite Pantaloons

Upcycle a jersey tee shirt into a comfy pair of leggings for your little one. Any stretch tee shirt will do for this workshop. You will learn to pin paper patterns, cut fabric accurately, measure and cut elastic to fit, and sew an elastic casing.

WEEK 3: Daddy's Darling Dress

Upcycle a men’s button down shirt to create a stylish little girls dress. Using the skills learned in the last class you will get to practice inserting elastic into the neckline and sleeve. For more advanced students, the option is available to add pockets to your dress.

WEEK 4: Freestyle

We hate unfinished business here at 38coLab so in this workshop you will get to finish any project you might not have got to finish in the other 3 classes. Bring your unfinished pieces in and get some one-on-one help and get your questions answered. Got all your projects finished? That’s ok, you now have time to embellish the pieces, add pockets, and whatever else you fancy with Zoë’s help.
