About this event

To coincide with National Arts in Nursing Homes Day. This masterclass is pre-recorded and available on YouTube from Fri 21 May, 2021. Bookers will be sent the direct YouTube link for access, but the workshop will be available for public viewing until 31 May.

Artist Ciara Harrison will lead a masterclass in cyanotype techniques and explore the role of making and materials as prompts for recollection, observation and storytelling. This workshop is aimed at arts practitioners and activity coordinators working in care settings with older adults.

This pre-recorded workshop delivered over YouTube will look at how to incorporate suitable materials such as flora and other natural matter as well as personal effects to encourage observation, curiosity and conversation with and among participants. The artist will offer considerations on how to make this technique accessible and enjoyable for participants with varying dexterity and sensory abilities to create striking visual imagery.

Her practice is focused in socially engaged and participatory art with themes centring on hospitality, education and the preservation and sharing of skills and knowledge. She endeavours to create social change through collaboration with individuals, communities and institutions in the creation of participatory art. With a particular interest in creative interventions in non-formal arts settings, Ciara fosters projects where tea, biscuits, craft and other domestic processes act as prompts for collaborative curiosity, conversations and the exchanges of ideas and observations. To date, Ciara’s projects have been supported by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Design and Crafts Council of Ireland, Creative Ireland and the Arts Council.
