Event description
Intersectional Identities: How does it feel to be an older member of the LGBTQIA+ community in Ireland?

About this event

Chaired by Rory O’Neill, this live discussion takes its inspiration from a new film commission from Age & Opportunity on the LGBTQIA+ community in Ireland, by filmmaker Cathy Dunne. Nine years ago, the A&O funded "Visible Lives" (GLEN) study on older LGBT persons demonstrated that older LGBT people in Ireland experienced being doubly marginalised because of being both LGBT and older. This marginalisation must also be the case for other older members of the LGBTQIA+ community here, leading to an invisibility amongst the broader population. As a result, entering care homes for some may be particularly fraught. Featuring panelists Daithi Clayton, LGBTQIA+ advocate (and participant in the film), Will Kennedy, lifelong LGBTQIA+ activist, with campaigner and former academic, Ailbhe Smyth.

The Age & Opportunity Film is funded by the LGBTI+ Community Services Fund 2020.
