About this event
In our Behind Closed Doors Series, we invite you to join us for Medieval Walls and Towers – Hiding in Plain sight guided tour with Dave Pollock, archaeologist.
The tour starts outside the Medieval Museum entrance at 11:30am and the duration is approximately 1 to 1 hour 15 mins.
In Waterford City we are very fortunate to have some of the best-preserved medieval towers and walls in Ireland. They provide a tangible link to the story of Irelands first city.
In 2021 Waterford City and County Council with Irish Walled Towns Network Funding, commissioned an Interpretation Plan for the Medieval Walls and Towers.
This year again with IWTN funding, as one of the actions proposed, we are producing a Guide to the Walls and Towers with text and illustrations by Dave Pollock. Dave’s archaeological experience in the city has informed the illustrations showing what these walls and towers looked like in times past. This tour, with Dave will look at some of the walls and towers… their features and the story behind them.
Bring your good flat walking shoes!
Maximum number: 20.
Rosemary Ryall, Waterford City and County Conservation Officer, presents this wonderful series of house calls giving us the opportunity to get an in-depth look at building we pass on the street every day, wonder about or don’t even see.
Rosemary will walk and talk us through buildings and layers of a complex history to reveal architecture that forms an integral part of the City’s cultural heritage and identity.
