Event description

Description

This event on Africa day will explore three of the most pressing issues facing girls and women in Ethiopia - education, early marriage and rural-urban migration.

To promote knowledge exchange on these issues between Ethiopia and Ireland, the School of Social Work and Social Policy, TCD and TIDI will welcome two Ethiopian speakers, Prof. Tesfaye Semela (Director of Centre for Policy and Development Research, Hawassa University, Ethiopia) and Dr. Alula Pankhurst (Director of Young Lives Ethiopia).

Inputs from Trinity College Dublin will include Ms. Louise Yorke (PhD Candidate School of Social Work and Social Policy), Professor Robbie Gilligan (School of Social Work and Social Policy) and Professor Susan Murphy (School of Natural Sciences).

The discussion will explore Ethiopia’s past achievements, existing challenges and potential future gains in the areas of gender equality. This event is kindly sponsored by the Irish Research Council New Foundations Scheme and TIDI.
