Bio Data sonification
Have you ever wanted to collaborate with a Cabbage? Or jam with a Geranium?
About this event
Are you bored of waiting for your bandmates to turn up to practice? What if your future accompanist is sitting in a pot of dirt in your living room.
This is a workshop on how to measure a plant's electronic resistance and turn that into a digital instrument. This electronic resistance changes moment to moment and in much larger arcs throughout the day.
We will use a combination of a hacked Wii balance board and the programming language MAX. I will show you how to scale these minute electrical measurements so as they work within the MIDI range or output them as straight oscillators.
You will need.
A laptop, either windows or Mac is fine.
MAX installed (the trial version lasts for a month).
OSCulator installed.
A bit of technical or coding knowledge.
I will have a number of Wii Balance boards available but if you would like to bring along Wii remote controls this method would work with those also.
