Description

On Thursday 11th July 2019, the Biorefinery Glas EIPAgri
Operational Group in collaboration with Teagasc will host a free small-scale
biorefinery field demonstration event at Shinagh farm in
Bandon, Ireland. Funded by the Department of
Agriculture, Food and the Marine through the 2014-
2020 Rural Development Programme, Biorefinery Glas
is among the worlds first small-scale biorefinery
demonstration projects and and is working with Carbery
farmers to demonstrate an opportunity for farmer
diversification into the circular bioeconomy. Over a twoyear
period the project will use a multi-product
biorefinery to improve protein efficiency and produce a
range a value-added products from grass, while offering
added environmental benefits. The demonstration day
invites farmers and stakeholders from the wider
agricultural/bioeconomy sectors to come and see the
system in operation and meet key project personnel.

Participants will be introduced to the concept of
bioeconomy and biorefineries as potential
diversification opportunities for the agri-sector. They
will learn about the process being used to improve the
resource efficiency of grass, the new products
produced, and will be able to see a live demonstration
of the biorefinery in operation. They will also hear
about opportunities for improved nitrogen use
efficiency and other environmental benefits of the
approach.
