Presented by Fried Plantains Collective in partnership with Lingo Festival.
Fried Plantains Collective was founded in 2016 by Osaro Azams, a Dublin-based Nigerian feminist activist and performer. The collective aims to use social and cultural events as community-building platforms; to create spaces in which people from the African diaspora can come together to share and engage in their cultures and narratives.
Black Rhymes Matter is a performance poetry celebration of the broad experiences of people of colour in Ireland and farther afield. Its name gives homage to the Black Lives Matter movement currently happening in the United States. It joins BLM solidarity movements around the world, in hopes of communicating the importance of awareness of second-class-citizenship struggles worldwide. Struggle is universal, and no human is an island.
This event is for those from any culture interested in explosive stories, and those who use the sunlight as a shield against the dark.
Featured Artists: Rainbow Wonderland, Isaac Miano, Osaro Azams, Sahar Ali, Clara Rose Thornton, Young Mai (music), Toyin Odelade and Shay Ty.
