About this event
Singer-songwriter Briege Murphy, is a native of The Ring of Gullion valley, South Armagh- an area rich in songs and story-telling
Her songs are often inspired by the surroundings of the beautiful hill country in which she was reared, and still lives with her family.
Songs like "The hills of South Armagh " and "Cloghinne Winds" amongst others, have been recorded by many artists across the globe.
Upon release of her first album "The Longest Road " , Briege carved out her place as one of the strong women of Irish music, moving her audiences, by her words, her lilting melodies, her passion for Ireland, and her native home.
Since the release of that first album, Briege has gone on to release 5 more albums, bringing to life situations common to people's own experiences, past and present.
She has been described as "An Irish Nanci Griffiths" by The Living Tradition magazine, and music journalist John O' Regan said;
"Imagine Mary Chapin Carpenter, with a distinctly Irish outlook".
Colum Sands described Briege as having "a definite sense of place", and "Patrick Kavanagh's sister-spirit" .
On hearing her songs, Christy Moore declared "Lovely singing, great songs, a joy to hear"
Briege has performed at festivals like Fiddler's Green, Rostrevor , Newry Arts/Fleadh , Ballyshannon, Cork, Cambridge,The international folk festival of Australia, Oslo, and Stockholm. She has also performed at The Patrick Kavanagh festival 4 times.

One of her tracks has been included on a compilation album, produced in conjunction with our Arts council and The Smithsonian Institute , Washington DC.
Briege's first love is her native traditional Irish music, and she often includes a few old songs in her repertoire, along with her own original ones. She continues to sing her songs and tell her funny stories in venues all across the world, and has toured extensively in the U.S., Scandanavia, Australia, New Zealand, England and Scotland and of course at home in Ireland.
