Event description
A gentle Pilates class tailored specifically to post-natal women, to restore and re-balance the body after birth. Babies are welcome.

About this Event

A gentle Pilates class tailored specifically to post-natal women, focusing on stretching, strengthening and relaxation to restore and re-balance the body after birth . Babies are welcome in class until they are able to crawl (any older and you'll spend more time chasing them round the room than on the mat!).

This is a small group class and is suitable for beginners. You must be at least 6 weeks post-natal (10 weeks c-section) and have GP approval to exercise. All equipment is provided.

This is a 6 week term, starting 22 April 2020. Classes are Wednesday mornings, 10:00am, Elite Pilates, Donnybrook. The cost of the 6 weeks is 80 euro. This ticket is a 10 euro deposit with the balance of due on arrival to your first class. Class lasts for approximately 50 minutes.

What are the benefits of post-natal Pilates?

  • Relieve back and pelvic pain
  • Re-build your core and pelvic floor at a slow and safe pace
  • Bond with your baby and meet other mums
  • Build and stretch key post-natal muscles for holding and feeding baby
  • Relieves stress and body tension.

What do I need to bring to the class?

For hygiene reasons, please bring your own gym mat - I will provide you with a thick mat to go under it. Please wear socks with grips to prevent slips - you can also purchase these at the studio (19 euro). You should bring water and a pillow for your comfort and a blanket for baby to lie on. Make sure you wear comfortable clothing (leggings and tshirt are fine) and a good bra if you need it - although there is no impact to the exercises in this class.

Do I need Pilates experience?

Absolutely not - we focus on movement - stretching what's tight and strengthening weaknesses, without complicated moves. These are small group classes so you will get plenty of attention, help and support.

How does the class work when I have a baby with me?

The class is laid out with mats for mummy and baby will be lying next to you. The Pilates focuses on mummy - baby isn't incorporated as such (unless you choose to hold them) however they will be laying next so you'll be doing plenty of interracting. This also means that if they're asleep you're still able to fully participate in the class.

Feeding, nappy changing and nurturing in class is welcome - anything goes really - you can stop the Pilates anytime to tend to your baby in any way you need to.

How should I bring baby in?

As it's a small room, there's no space for the buggy to come in with you, but you can bring baby in the car seat if you'd like. You can also bring baby in a sling, however it's not suitable to use a sling during the class as we will be in several positions, such as side lying and all fours.

What happens after the Pilates?

We lay down and do a short body scan meditation. I provide you with a warm towelette and some fruit or dark chocolate. The movement and relaxation gives you a wonderful sense of wellbeing, you'll leave the class feeling very refreshed.

What about the Coronavirus?

For hygiene reasons, I require you to bring your own mat. Hand sanitiser is available to use at each at my venues, and I ask that you use it as you enter the room and again as you leave the room.

These classes are not mass gatherings and are limited to 10 people.

I will follow local authority advice on class cancellations and if cancellation is necessary, you will be issued with a refund for any unused classes.
