Festive paper baubles with folded and layered techniques

This workshop is designed for the festive season and works particularly well for friends and families, including parent and child pairs, looking for a relaxed creative activity together. Ideal for community centres, local libraries, or home-based group settings, it encourages a shared, low-pressure experience where participants can enjoy a calm, reflective environment while exploring materials and ideas. Champagne or a non-alcoholic sparkling drink can be served to add a subtle celebratory touch.

Rising Joy

The session begins with a short guided meditation to gently focus attention and introduce the theme of joy. Participants are invited to notice small moments, colours, sounds, or sensations that lift the spirit, which can then be explored through journalling before the creative process. This reflection helps participants connect personally to the theme while providing a calm and centred start to the workshop.

Materials and Method

Participants handle a variety of accessible papers, including patterned, music note, and book pages, alongside ribbons, string, beads, and simple adhesives. The process is introduced step by step, starting with folding and gluing paper circles to form bauble shapes, followed by layering and decoupage to personalise each piece. Additional decorative touches such as glitter, gold and silver markers, and beads allow participants to make each bauble unique. Shared tools support collaboration and interaction, but no prior skills or experience are needed.

A Keepsake of Light

By the end of the workshop, each participant will have several individual baubles, each shaped and decorated according to their own choices. These creations hold personal meaning, reflecting the focus and attention given during the session. The baubles can be hung on a tree, gifted, or kept as a reminder of the festive joy and gentle reflections experienced during the workshop.
