A practical and hands-on introduction to the building, repair and operation of the traditional fishing weirs of Waterford harbour.

About this event

This 2 hour workshop will highlight the history and heritage value of the traditional head weirs of Waterford Harbour by allowing participants to explore how they were sited, built, repaired, and fished for centuries in the harbour. It is a free event. We will also have the opportunity of a boat trip courtesy of Tomás Sullivan to an existing weir to appreciate the scale and positioning of the structure. Tomás will also do a short input on the issue of marine litter as part of this. The event is supported by Local Authority Waters Programme. Max of 12 people attending.
