Welcome!

Data Ceili are proud to bring you this pre-conference event. All of our precons will be running in Trinity College Dublin on Thursday 8th June.

The precon summary

During this all day session we will guide you through everything you need to know about building an Analytics Platform with Microsoft Fabric, and how you can work with existing Azure services and investments such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics.

We will start off the day with a general introduction of all the capabilities of Microsoft Fabric, how they work and when you should be using them. As part of this we will talk about the capabilities unlocked by OneLake within Microsoft Fabric, and how the Delta-parquet format unlocks your data in an open and performant way.

After the introduction, the day is divided into three main parts. Ingesting your data, processing your data, and then analyzing that data.

We will be covering both batch based and streaming data, the technologies we will be covering are Event Streams, Data Factory in Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory, and how these can work with OneLake and Azure Data Lake Storage. As part of this we will look at ways to connect to existing data without duplication or time consuming loading process.

Once data is in Microsoft Fabric OneLake, we will process it efficiently while demonstrating best practices. Data engineers are used to Spark so it will be our tool of choice in creating different layers while tackling all the things you need to know. During this part, you will learn how to incrementally load data and make sure your cleansing is done right and in an effective and dynamic way! Rest assured, SQL folks are not forgotten! We will show how you can access the same data using SQL!

Of course, there is no using loading data without a serving layer for your business needs. We will show you how you can use Lakehouse & Warehouse in Microsoft Fabric focusing on performance! As part of this we will show you how to build Power BI report using new consumption method reading data directly from the lake, called DirectLake, skipping data engines.

Throughout the day we will be demonstrating the capabilities with demos which we will provide to everyone as part of the sessions. We will also contrast and compare how this works with Azure Synapse Analytics and when you might want to use which tool.

If you do not know where to start, don’t worry, during this day we will explain every step and how Fabric helps you get the job done. After this day you will have a clear understanding of how Fabric works and what components you have to use for you own top notch analytical solution!
