Description

Arts Council Artist in the Community Scheme
Bursary Award 2018: Collaborative Arts in Health Contexts

Information Session

On October 17th, 2018, Create will host an information event for artists in relation to the 2018 AIC Bursary Award. In this information session Aine Crowley, AIC Coordinator, will outline the Bursary, answering any questions you might have about making an application. The focus will be on collaborative arts in health contexts, the application process and how a Bursary could help facilitate and support experiment, research and professional development. Architect Tara Kennedy, previous Bursary recipient, will speak to her experience and the role the Bursary played in the development of her practice.

TARA KENNEDY practices and teaches architecture, with a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach. Tara works with John McLaughlin Architects and is a lecturer at Cork Centre for Architectural Education, as well as initiating socially driven design and research projects.

As the curator of Beyond Participation, an international conference by the Irish Architecture Foundation, Tara provokes discussion about architecture, community, and the meaning of the things we design. Tara is a co-founder of Culturstruction with Jo Anne Butler. Tara was a co-founder of the community-based design organisation Commonage based in the town of Callan, Co. Kilkenny and ‘Commonage Summer School’ (2011,12,13) an innovative ten-day programme of design and build workshops, talks, field trips and film screenings exploring the role of design in rural futures, situated in the small town of Callan, Co.Kilkenny.

In 2017 Tara was appointed co-curator of the Irish Pavilion for the 16th International Architecture Biennale, with her colleagues Jeffrey Bolhuis, Jo Anne Butler, Miriam Delaney, Laurence Lord and Orla Murphy. The pavilion, entitled Free Market explores the past, present and future of public space in Irish rural towns. (www.free-market.ie)

Tara holds a Master of Architecture (2013) and BSc in Architecture (2010) from UCD. Prior to this she received a first class honours BFA (Sculpture) from NCAD (2005). Tara was the recipient of the 2017 Arts Council Next Generation Award for Architecture, and in 2015 the Arts Council Artist in the Community Bursary Award: Architecture and Collaborative Arts, managed by Create.
