Description

CALM launch the Lost Hours Walk, calling on hundreds of people to walk together through Central London against suicide

The Lost Hours Walk will start on 26 October 2019 and go through the night in line with the clocks going back for Autumn Daylight Saving

Walkers can partake in a half or a full route, with a ten mile walk going from Greenwich to Oval, and one 20 mile walk heading back to Greenwich

18 lives are lost to suicide every day in the UK, and it remains the single biggest killer of men under 45. Funds raised from the Lost Hours Walk will further CALM’s life-saving free and anonymous services

In line with the Autumn Daylight Saving Time in October, the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a leading movement against suicide, will host their first ever owned fundraising event – the Lost Hours Walk.

As the clocks change and time goes backwards, CALM will bring together hundreds of supporters on the streets of Central London to campaign against struggling in silence, against being alone, against living miserably. The night time walk will start at 11pm on Saturday 26 October and will offer two routes – one ten mile route from Greenwich to Oval and one 20 mile route from Greenwich to Oval and back again.

18 people take their own lives every day in the UK, leaving behind thousands of friends, family and colleagues. On the one day when the clocks go back and we are given extra time, the Lost Hours Walk is for all those for whom there wasn’t enough.

The Lost Hours walk is an opportunity to deal with grief differently and defiantly. CALM aims to smash the silence around loss, and to provide a platform to remember our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and friends out on the streets of London.

Building on the success of community challenges and walking events that are open to all, the funds raised from the Lost Hours Walk will enable CALM to continue supporting anyone going through a difficult time with their free and anonymous helpline and webchat services. In 2018, CALM’s services directly prevented 675 suicides.
