Description

The objective of the event is to facilitate new engaged research partnerships between researchers, policy makers, civil and civic society organisations (CSOs), social enterprises, others; to support the use of research evidence to inform policy, practice, services, and creation of new products; and to enrich the engaged research for societal impact ecosystem in Ireland.

Who will participate?

We are inviting a select number of researchers, civic and civil society organisations, policy makers, funding agencies, social enterprises, and departmental officials to this gathering.

Why participate?

We are inviting you as a member of an organisation that might benefit from learning more about specific national and European Commission research funding opportunities.

At the event, you will hear about case studies and funding opportunities. A series of meetings between researchers, policy makers, civil and civic society organisations (CSOs), social enterprises etc. will form part of the day’s proceedings.

Agenda:

9.45-10.15: Registration: tea/coffee/pastries

10.15-10.35: Welcome & introductions: Prof Brian MacCraith, Irish Universities Association Council Chair & William Beausang, Deputy Secretary General, Department of Education and Skills;

10.35-11.10: Panel discussion: Engaged Research for Societal Impact: Challenges and Enablers for Success. This Panel discussion will be chaired by Peter Brown, Director, Irish Research Council; with insights and contribution from a spectrum of engaged research stakeholders, including policy makers, funding agency, research staff, and civic and civil society partners.Panel members: Lisa Keating, Director R & I, IUA; Anne Cody, HRB; Matt McCann, Researcher/ Social Enterprise owner, Access Earth; Joe Moore, DBEI; Deirdre Garvey, CEO, Wheel. The discussion will focus on how we better utilise existing infrastructure (policy, resources, training, award, leadership) to maximise impacts from public investment in research.

11.10-12.00: Funding opportunities and case studies in action: This session will be led by researchers, funding agency and civic, civil society representatives focusing on building an evidence base to inform new or improved policy, practice, products or services across housing crisis; health and well-being; environmental protection; ageing demographics.

12.00-12.50: Attendees thematic networking session: This will be hosted by Joe Gallagher, Deputy Director of the Sustainable Development Section, Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment and organised around the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

12.50 -13.00: Closing remarks & next steps

13.00-14.00: Thematic networking session continued over lunch

How does the networking session work?

Once registered we will be back in touch with step two of the registration process - you will be asked to indicate if you are available for research partnership networking introduction meetings. We will also ask you to create your own very short profile. The profile should describe what kind of partnership expertise, etc. you are offering or looking for. The better the quality of your profile, the higher the chance of a successful meeting. Your profile will be available in event packs and on the event webpage for other participants to view.
