Join in with artist Jonathan Cassidy in a free Heritage Week painting event to capture your own scene on canvas from Sligo's Green Fort

About this event

Artist and contestant in the popular British TV competition, Landscape Artist of the Year, Jonathan Cassidy, will lead a group of artists of all abilities as they endeavour to capture a scene of their choice from the stunning selection of views afforded by Sligo's impressive Green Fort. The c.400-year-old earthen fort sits high above the town, looking across a panorama that includes Sligo town and harbour, Benbulben, Knocknarea, the Curlew mountains, Coney Island and the Atlantic ocean.

Due to the sensitive nature of this site, numbers will be limited and therefore participants must book in advance through the Eventbrite website for this Sligo Tidy Towns event. Participants will need to supply their own materials and, as it is an en Plein air event, they will also need to dress appropriately for the outdoors.

Jonathan will be available to guide any participants who would like to avail of his expertise from 10 am on Saturday 20th August until 12noon but are welcome to say on for longer to complete their work if they wish to do so. If weather conditions are poor on the scheduled date of this event, it will take place the next morning, Sunday 21st August instead. Registered participants will be notified of any change in arrangements.

The Green Fort is located in O'Boyle Park. The main entrance to the park is just off Connaughton Road and opposite the Coach Parking area adjacent to The Model. The fort is to the right of the entrance gates.
